It needs someone better qualified than me to comment authoritatively on this, but the 430 is its own position source, but non-WAAS. Hopefully we wouldn't need yet another antenna on the roof! When you select reversionary mode you lose the autopilot, flight director, Mode C altitude. It will not descend or climb with altitude preselect or intercept and fly a radial or glideslope or create a top of descent profile (TOD).

We have a WAAS / Certified GPS in a Garmin 335 with its own external antenna, so assume we could use that then? But how does that work with the 430, if you want to couple the 430 to the GFC500, doesn't the 430 have to take an external feed of position information. Automatic flight control is provided by an STec System 550. The autopilot in my Bonanza is an S-Tec 50, and it does just that and does it well.
